Couples Therapy

Sunroom Counselling offers evidence-based couples therapy based on Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples. It can be really daunting to seek therapy as a couple and you may be carrying a lot of fears, wounds, hurt and doubt. Couples therapy can help couples work through issues such as communication, parenting, betrayal, desire, sex, connection and separation.

In couples therapy, Kim takes a respectful, caring approach, making sure each partner feels heard, valued and cared for while helping the couple work through the difficulties getting in the way of their bond and connection.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, Kim provides a safe, attuned therapeutic relationship within which you can explore challenges, trauma, anxiety, relational difficulties, identity, family of origin, and self. The therapeutic relationship is always collaborative and client-led, meaning that you are in control of the pace and what you feel comfortable bringing to therapy. Kim will work with you to better understand your history and concerns and how these may connect to your sense of self and the world.

Individual therapy or counselling can be helpful when things feel hard for a particular reason such as a recent loss, relationship difficulties, stress, burnout, betrayal or trauma. It can also be helpful for those seeking to work through more entrenched or systemic ways of coping or being.

Parenting Support

Becoming a parent is a huge shift in identity and brings with it many challenges. Oftentimes, parenting presents us with unexpected challenges or can raise within us difficult feelings including those related to our families of origin. Parenting support at Sunroom Counselling provides a space for parents to better understand themselves as parents, better understand their children and build confidence in their relationship with their children.

Kim provides a nonjudgmental space for parents to explore the unique challenges that come up for them in parenting. This may include difficulties caring for children with complex needs, the challenge of navigating a recent diagnosis, or difficulty setting boundaries and limits in the family. She also provides really specific and clear ways in which parents can build stronger relationships with their kids and support their kids through their own challenges and mental health. Kim has a strong background in working with neurodivergent young people and young people navigating complex mental health.
